Vela Travertine Proyecto 2023 - Current Line
Our latest project is an embodiment of our collective passion and artistic growth. The project, Vela Travertine which we're set to introduce in the coming weeks, is our evolution as a studio. The concept has been nurtured by countless hours of research, experimentation, and introspection. We wanted to create a body of work that challenges the conventional boundaries of art and scent. Something that invites those to engage on a deeper level and provokes a sense of introspection.
This project is a pure embodiment of sustainability. Our choice of natural travertine as the primary material and the emotions infused into each piece reflect our collective spirit. We've dared to push our creative boundaries, challenge our own perceptions, and in doing so, have uncovered new dimensions of our growth as artists. To bring this vision to life, we are collaborating with master artisans abroad and sourcing South American travertine, highlighting our commitment to both craftsmanship and sustainability. This line is our first to be fully refillable.
Vela Concreto Proyecto 2022 - Current/Limited Run
In 2022, we embarked on the daring venture of handcasting our vessels in-house, and the experience was nothing short of transformative.Concrete, with its raw aesthetic and durability, quickly revealed itself as a medium of profound potential.
The meticulous process of making molds, from the initial design to the final finishing touches, was an art in itself. We delved into the world of form and function, learning the intricacies of creating vessels that were both aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound. It was a journey of trial and error, a process of discovery that brought us closer to redefining our line to functional art verses a product line alone.
The tactile experience of crafting each vessel by hand added a profound depth to our work, forging a tangible connection between the artist, the medium, and the end consumer.
The Vela Concreto project stands as a limited-run collection; Our foray into small-scale, sustainable craftsmanship. Each vessel is a work of art, born of meticulous craftsmanship and a shared vision for a more sustainable world. Special requests for these unique pieces can now be fulfilled.
Cartera De Platano Proyecto 2023 - Current - Limited Run - Sourced: Dominican Republic
A special collaboration with a Co-Op of artisans in the Dominican Republic, using weaving traditions from the island to hand-weave these intricate plantain fiber bags. Handwoven in Barahona, Dominican Republic - each piece is the signature of the island with contemporary designs. Our collaborators goal is to be a fair-trade platform to support the weaving community and continue to share the beauty of weaving and the island.
This collaboration has allowed me to share a piece of my heritage with the world, to bring the beauty and significance of Afro-Dominican craftsmanship to a broader audience. It's a reminder that our traditions are not static; they are living, breathing expressions of who we are. Through this project, I've been able to contribute to the preservation and celebration of our heritage, while also pushing the boundaries of creativity and design.
